Bitcoin Lightning Network Vulnerabilities Confirmed: Patches Coming Soon
The Bitcoin Lightning Network has been plagued by several vulnerabilities in its software, confirmed by Core Lightning developers. These flaws were discovered after a flood of AI-generated vulnerability reports from multiple sources over the previous 10 days.
A small group of developers and volunteers sorted through the reports to identify real bugs, which led to a coordinated security release. The team initially planned for a quick patch update but dropped that plan in favor of a more comprehensive fix.
The updates are expected to be released within days, but the technical details will remain secret for two weeks to prevent attackers from exploiting the vulnerabilities before they can be patched.
Core Lightning is one of the main implementations of the Lightning Network, which allows small Bitcoin payments to be moved off the main blockchain through channels between nodes. Until operators install the fix, money parked in those channels sits behind code that the team already knows is flawed.
