Bitcoin Market Activity Hits Lowest Level Since November 2023

Bitcoin's market activity has been quietly dwindling this summer, according to research firm K33. The daily average spot trading volume in July 2026 is around $2.2 billion, marking the weakest sustained level since November 2023.

This low volume is not just a seasonal dip but a structural fragility in the exchange model that relied on high-frequency retail speculation to sustain operations.

BitMEX will shut down permanently in September 2026, ending an 11-year run. BitMart and AscendEX have also signaled exits due to challenging market conditions and revenue shortfalls.

The absence of sharp price swings is discouraging active trading, which then reinforces low volume in a self-sustaining loop. Institutional traders, particularly those using regulated futures products, have pulled back meaningfully from Bitcoin exposure.
