Bitcoin Market Sluggish as Short-Term Holders Face Unrealized Losses
The Bitcoin market has been sluggish since its price drop to around $62,000 last week. According to crypto analyst Darkfost, short-term holders of Bitcoin have not seen significant activity, either selling at a profit or at a loss. This lack of movement suggests that the market is waiting for its next move.
The short-term holder cohort, defined as those who have moved their coins on the network within the past 155 days, are more sensitive to price fluctuations than long-term investors. They tend to capitalize on swing price moves but also sell in large numbers when volatility becomes high. Currently, these holders face unrealized losses, with an average cost basis of around $67,105.
Axel Adler Jr.'s STH MVRV pricing bands indicate that holders are underwater, but the structure is intact. The current reading of 0.94 shows they remain holding unrealized losses. Additionally, the SOPR measures show that short-term holders are selling at a minor loss, but there's no deep flush yet.
Aggressive buyer volume has reached historically low levels, with the 30-day average taker buy volume on Binance at $3.3 billion, its lowest since July 2023's consolidation around $30,000. This reflects fading speculative interest and a broader loss in market conviction, but is not considered a reversal signal.
