Bitcoin May Shift from Equities-Correlated Asset to Liquidity Magnet
A surge in short positions across American stocks is changing how analysts view Bitcoin's (BTC) long-term role within global markets.
Rising US equity short interest reflects hedging rather than outright bearish bets, with hedge fund gross leverage near 293%.
XWIN Japan, a contributor to research firm CryptoQuant, argues that Bitcoin could shift from a tech-correlated asset toward a separate liquidity destination if conditions ease. This is because the asset has historically tracked equities during panics, but began to diverge in 2025 when the S&P 500 traded in a tight band while Bitcoin showed larger swings driven by ETF demand, leverage activity, and crypto-native flows.
If future conditions bring Fed easing, a weaker dollar, and renewed ETF inflows, XWIN wrote, Bitcoin could become 'a secondary liquidity destination rather than simply a correlated tech-like asset.'
