Bitcoin May Thrive Under Democrats, but Altcoins Face Uncertainty
VanEck's Matthew Sigel recently argued that bitcoin may not face headwinds even if the Democratic Party returns to power in the United States. Sigel, head of digital asset research at VanEck, made this statement in a CNBC interview reported by Bitcoin Magazine on August 26.
Sigel stressed that bitcoin should be viewed separately from other digital assets and that the trend of Democrats being grouped into an anti-crypto camp is not necessarily applicable to bitcoin. He noted that former President Joe Biden was 'actually okay with bitcoin' and suggested that a stronger progressive tilt within the Democratic Party could increase the chance that bitcoin's decentralisation and scarcity are highlighted.
The market attention is focused on whether a Democratic return would have a bigger impact on altcoin regulation than on bitcoin itself. The recent rebound in bitcoin prices, which has risen about 24 percent over the past seven days and briefly climbed to $81,160, is cited as being driven by expectations for progress on legislation that could reduce regulatory uncertainty.
