Bitcoin Miner MARA Posts Record Loss as Prices Plummet
MARA, a Bitcoin miner, reported a net loss of $611.3 million in Q2 2026 due to a decline in Bitcoin prices.
The company mined 2,422 Bitcoins during the quarter, a 3% increase from the same period last year, but this was offset by a 28% drop in average Bitcoin price.
Despite the loss, MARA's CEO Fred Thiel stated that Bitcoin mining remains foundational to the company's business and will continue to generate cash flow for other investments, including AI infrastructure.
MARA is expanding its operations with a focus on high-performance computing (HPC) and AI infrastructure. The company has acquired Exaion SaS, which operates HPC data centers and secure cloud and AI infrastructure, and partnered with Starwood Capital Group to enable the conversion of select MARA sites for enterprise, hyperscale, and AI customers.
