Bitcoin Miners Breathe Sigh of Relief as AI Pivot Faces Growing Backlash
Bitcoin's recent price surge has given miners something to celebrate, but their pivot to artificial intelligence (AI) is looking less certain than before.
The average all-in cost of mining a single BTC rose in tandem with the price increase, topping $104,000 as of Tuesday evening. However, last week's 1.3% drop in mining difficulty rate and the projected 1% fall at its next adjustment on September 6 may help mitigate some costs for miners.
Nearly all miners have pivoted to providing data center infrastructure for AI and other high-performance computing (HPC) clients, but voter sentiment towards data centers is turning negative. The National Republican Senatorial Committee issued a memo warning the AI sector that their operations are becoming increasingly unpopular with voters.
