Bitcoin Miners Flee to AI Amid Pivotal Revenue Drop
Bitcoin miners are struggling as market distress reaches levels not seen since 2019. This situation could impact Bitcoin network security, warns Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments.
The reason for this concern is that $BTC miner transaction fees have dropped to a 7-year low despite the crypto asset's value growing 13x. As a result, miners are turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to supplement their revenue. However, this trend may pose a risk to network security.
The average cost of mining $BTC is about $70.5K as of August 4th, making it more expensive for smaller players. The current market situation has extended miner distress to 250 days and counting, three times longer than the 2022 bear market or 2018.
