Bitcoin Miners Prepare for August Showdown Amid Tight Margins
Bitcoin miners have experienced a bumpy ride over the past six months, with May's boom quickly turning into June's bust. According to Newhedge.io's monthly mining revenue data, April saw $947.26 million in revenue, followed by a jump to $1.086 billion in May, one of the strongest months for miners in recent memory.
However, this momentum did not last, and June revenue plummeted to $836.41 million, a sharp reversal that reminded operators how fast favorable conditions can disappear. The modest 1.6% gain in Bitcoin's price over the past 30 days has offered some support for miners, but they remain well below May's peak.
The hashprice, which describes the spot price of hashrate per terahash (TH/s), petahash (PH/s), exahash (EH/s), and so on, has improved slightly, from $29.01 to $31.59 per PH/s. However, margins remain tight, and August could shake things up with two competing forks giving miners fresh incentives to rethink where they point their hashpower.
