Bitcoin Miners Shift Focus to AI as Revenue Surpasses Mining Income
Public bitcoin miners have been shifting their focus towards AI infrastructure in recent months. IREN, one of the largest publicly traded bitcoin mining companies, has seen its revenue from cloud AI services surpass its bitcoin mining income for the first time.
In the fourth quarter of the 2026 fiscal year, ending June 30, IREN's revenue from cloud AI services reached $70.5 million compared to $66.7 million in bitcoin mining income.
This shift towards AI infrastructure has been driven by rising capital expenditures in the sector and demand for facilities with access to electricity.
