Bitcoin Miners Spend $5.11B on AI Infrastructure as Revenue Lags
Bitcoin mining companies are making massive investments in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, spending $5.11 billion on capital expenditures in the first half of 2026 alone.
This figure represents a significant shift for the industry, with nine publicly-listed Bitcoin miners pouring billions into AI and high-performance computing services.
However, revenue from these activities lags behind investments, with just $341.2 million generated in the same period - a roughly 15:1 spending-to-revenue gap.
HIVE Digital Technologies is one company leading the charge in AI infrastructure expansion, signing a five-year, $350 million cloud deal and financing a $185 million Nvidia Blackwell Ultra GPU rollout through zero-interest notes.
