Bitcoin Miners Turn to AI as Nvidia-Led Deals Top $50 Billion
Hut 8, a company that originated in Bitcoin mining, has become a major player in the AI infrastructure market. The company's Beacon Point campus in Texas now boasts 704 MW of leased capacity under a 15-year contract worth $19.6 billion. This is not the only significant development at Beacon Point, as Nvidia holds the site lease and will provide chips used for AI computing.
Anthropic, the company behind Claude, has signed a massive $35 billion cloud contract with Lambda, which will utilize part of the power from Hut 8's Beacon Point campus. This deal is just one example of how Bitcoin miners are repurposing their infrastructure to cater to the growing demand for AI computing power.
The transition from Bitcoin mining to AI computing is gaining momentum, with other companies like Riot Platforms also entering into lucrative contracts. In fact, Hut 8 estimates that its Beacon Point campus could generate up to $50.2 billion in revenue with all renewal options included.
