Bitcoin Mining Difficulty Drops 19.9% Amid Price Stagnation
Bitcoin's mining difficulty has dropped by 19.9% as its price remains below $65,000.
This marks only the second time that Bitcoin's year-over-year difficulty has gone negative, with the first occasion being in 2021 when China banned mining.
The recent drop in difficulty is a response to decreased computing power competing for new blocks on the network. When hashrate falls, the network makes it easier to find new blocks, which lowers the cost of mining for remaining operators.
The mining sector is under significant stress, with some miners halting operations and electricity capacity shifting towards AI data centers and high-performance computing.
