Bitcoin Mining Difficulty Hits Near-Historical Low Amid Ongoing Rebound
Bitcoin mining has hit a crossroads as difficulty hovers near its lowest point in 2026. According to data from mempool.space, Bitcoin's mining difficulty has dropped by 1.31% after the latest adjustment at block height 963648, leaving it just 0.7% above its 2026 low of 124.93 trillion.
This marks a brutal year for miners, with ten downward difficulty adjustments against seven increases. The losses have repeatedly dwarfed the rebounds that followed, with nearly every meaningful comeback since June being wiped off the board. As a result, roughly 150 exahash per second (EH/s) of effective mining power has disappeared from the network.
Despite some improvements in recent times, conditions remain fragile for miners. The price gap between Bitcoin's current value and its all-time high (ATH) above $126,000 set in October 2025 remains significant at 38.8%. If the price stalls, the floor could crack again, potentially leading to another shakeout.
