Bitcoin Mining Industry Shifts Towards AI Processing Amid Soaring AI Spending
The US Bitcoin mining industry is shifting towards AI processing due to soaring AI spending, according to Bloomberg. This has led publicly-listed Bitcoin mining companies to pivot their energy into providing processing power for AI instead of crypto.
Auradine, a California-based crypto mining hardware startup, rebranded as Velaura AI and started producing a new chip design for AI processing, citing the importance of power and energy efficiency in AI data centers. Bitcoin mining companies such as MARA Holdings and Riot Platforms have transitioned to providing processing power for AI.
Riot signed a $9 billion, 20-year deal with Anthropic in August to provide 191 megawatts of power for Anthropic's needs. 'We expect this trend to continue', said Ethan Vera, chief operating officer of Luxor, a crypto mining provider.
