Bitcoin Mining Resilient Amid AI-Driven Power Demand Shift
The Bitcoin mining industry is undergoing significant changes due to the rise of AI and HPC. According to ViaBTC CEO Yang Haipo, the increasing demand for electricity and data centers is reshaping the crypto landscape but will not displace Bitcoin mining.
Network hashrate peaked at over 1.1 zettahashes per second (ZH/s) in October 2025 before falling to more than 900 exahashes per second (EH/s) several times this year, highlighting the competition for power between mining and AI/HPC.
Miners are expected to shift towards cheaper, surplus, and flexible energy sources and push for efficiency upgrades ahead of the 2028 halving, signaling continued adoption and resilience for Bitcoin mining while increasing operational and energy risk.
