Bitcoin Mining Squeeze: 22.7% of Mainstream Miners Operating at Loss
Bitcoin mining has become increasingly challenging due to high energy costs and efficiency gaps. According to WuBlockchain Data Center, nearly 23% of mainstream Bitcoin mining machines are operating at a loss as of August 6.
This figure highlights the growing pressure on the sector, even with Bitcoin's price remaining above key technical thresholds. The data shows that older or less optimized equipment has slipped into daily losses due to rising hash rate and fluctuating electricity prices in key mining regions.
The shutdown price for the most energy-efficient mining model is estimated at $46,787, which represents the Bitcoin price level at which even the best-performing machines would approach break-even under prevailing conditions. Currently, with Bitcoin trading near $65,000, a significant majority of efficient hardware remains profitable.
