Bitcoin Mining Stocks Ditch BTC Price Correlation

Instruments

Bitcoin mining stocks have started to lose their correlation with Bitcoin prices as miners transition towards artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. According to Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee, companies like Core Scientific and TeraWulf now earn more revenue from AI data centers than from Bitcoin mining itself.

This shift means that Bitcoin mining stocks may no longer serve as direct proxies for Bitcoin price movements, unlike companies holding significant Bitcoin treasuries such as MicroStrategy. While correlation with Bitcoin price is declining, this does not guarantee positive returns for mining stocks, which remain influenced by broader business changes and market conditions.
