Bitcoin Minority Chain Relaunches with BLAKE2b Algorithm and New Block Weight Limits
A minority chain that diverged from the main Bitcoin blockchain after implementing the BIP-110 proposal has relaunched and switched to the BLAKE2b proof-of-work algorithm. The move is seen as a way for the chain to differentiate itself from the main network, which continues to use SHA-256d.
The relaunch comes after the minority chain failed to gain traction, with only 800 blocks generated since its inception. To address this issue, the new blockchain has increased the block weight limit to 800,000 units, equivalent to approximately 300kB.
Despite the changes, the minority chain still lags behind the main network in terms of mining difficulty and adoption. However, proponents argue that the new algorithm and block weight limits will make it more attractive for miners and users to join the network.
