Bitcoin Nears $62k Threshold as $1.17B Short Overhang Looms
Bitcoin's weekend price action will be closely watched as it nears the $62,000 level. If Bitcoin breaks this threshold, a significant short overhang of $1.17 billion in open interest could potentially pull the price down to $60,000. This short overhang is tied to the largest downside hedge, which has been placed at $60,000.
The July 31 high of $65,266 defines another boundary for Bitcoin, with $64,500 serving as the first repair level. Capital resting within 1% of spot across major exchanges will determine how far weekend orders travel. A broad reduction in nearby liquidity gives each market order more influence, and the side losing more capital determines the direction.
A bearish path through $62,000 involves sustained trading below this level, with spot sales leading futures and open interest expanding during the decline. Funding should hold near neutral or positive territory, indicating that longs are not fully flushed yet. Refilled sell orders during each rebound would add another confirmation, as sellers rebuild resistance above price.
