Bitcoin Network Resists Major Fork Attempt with Overwhelming Hash Power
The Bitcoin network has successfully fended off a major fork attempt, with 99.85% of its hash power remaining on the main chain.
Michael Saylor, founder of MicroStrategy, shared on-chain data that showed the vast majority of miners continued to support the existing protocol.
According to the data, the minority chain that split off via the fork was able to capture only 0.15% of the total hash power and produced a mere 2 blocks before falling 80 blocks behind the main chain.
This attempt, known as BIP-110, aimed to restrict the inclusion of non-financial data in Bitcoin transactions but was rejected by the network's security and user base.
