Bitcoin Options Market Reflects Caution Amid Bullish Outlook
The Bitcoin options market is showing signs of caution despite a bullish medium-term outlook. As of August 9, data from Coinglass shows that total open interest in Bitcoin options stands at $25.34 billion, down 0.63% from the previous day's $25.50 billion.
While call options still dominate outstanding positions, making up 60.35% of open interest compared to 39.65% for put options, recent trading activity has flipped in favor of puts, with 52.34% of volume traded in put options over the past 24 hours versus 47.66% in calls.
This divergence suggests that traders are maintaining a bullish core view while actively hedging against near-term volatility. The largest concentrations of open interest were seen in Deribit listings, led by an $80,000 call expiring December 25 and a $60,000 put also expiring on the same date.
Short-dated activity was more focused around Bybit's August 9 expiries, with the most actively traded contracts being a $65,000 call, a $65,000 put, and a $64,750 put. This concentration of near-expiry strikes around the same price area often signals a market preparing for fast price action.
