Bitcoin Outperforms AI Stocks as Miners See Surge in Value
The recent 23% weekly rally in Bitcoin has outperformed many AI-linked infrastructure stocks, including those that emphasized artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC), according to BlocksBridge Consulting's Miner Weekly. The strongest moves were seen among miners with the most direct relationship to Bitcoin price action.
Bitcoin-focused miners such as Canaan, American Bitcoin, and Cango rose between 41% and 67%, while several AI/HPC-heavy names were flat or down. This outperformance was concentrated in companies that market themselves around mining and Bitcoin economics rather than broader compute infrastructure narratives.
The US Treasury Department's announcement to at least double the size of its liquidity-support buybacks for longer-dated Treasury securities on August 19 contributed to improved liquidity expectations, which supported risk assets broadly, including crypto-linked equities. Additionally, renewed regulatory optimism following a White House meeting with crypto executives and a sharp liquidation-driven short squeeze after Bitcoin's breakout also played a role in the stock surge.
BlocksBridge attributed the stock surge to Treasury liquidity-support buybacks, renewed US crypto regulatory momentum, and a sharp liquidation-driven short squeeze. The broader message for investors is that despite the industry's AI pivot, Bitcoin price still largely determines near-term mining-stock performance.
