Bitcoin Ownership Hits Half Billion Mark
The global cryptocurrency market has reached a new milestone - over half a billion people now own Bitcoin. According to on-chain analyst Willy Woo, the number of BTC owners ranges between 370 million and 500 million people, which accounts for 4.5% to 6% of the world's total population.
This growth follows an S-shaped innovation adoption curve typical of the early stages of the internet's development. India leads in absolute numbers with 68 million users (4.6% of its population), while the United States ranks second with 50 million people and a penetration rate of 14%. China, despite regulatory restrictions, has 33 million users (2.3% of its population).
Countries with unstable macroeconomic conditions have also seen high adoption rates - Argentina and Turkey both have over 15% of their populations owning BTC. This is largely due to the use of digital assets as a tool for hedging against local inflation risks.
The new demographic data has sparked renewed discussion about $BTC's price potential, with some arguing that it will reach $250,000. However, Willy Woo urges investors to ignore short-term forecasts and focus on long-term fundamentals. He notes that the asset's growth multiple has declined with each macro cycle, limiting the likely peak to around $123,000.
