Bitcoin Poised to Challenge Gold's Market Cap Lead: CZ
Binance co-founder Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao predicts that Bitcoin could surpass gold's market value in the next bull cycle, despite gold holding a roughly tenfold capitalization lead. Speaking at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 conference in Hong Kong on August 27, CZ said that reserve preferences are shifting towards digital assets and that this shift would be gradual rather than immediate.
CZ acknowledged that gold's established valuation, trading, and reserve systems give it structural advantages that Bitcoin cannot quickly replace. He stated that major countries have built complete valuation, reserve, and trading systems around gold, making a shift to Bitcoin unlikely to happen overnight.
According to CZ, sovereign reserve allocations could eventually tilt towards digital assets, with Bitcoin representing more than 50% of strategic crypto holdings alongside Ethereum (ETH) and BNB (BNB). He also emphasized the role of stablecoins in expanding crypto use and linked wider adoption to artificial intelligence. CZ expects AI-assisted trading to develop before AI-driven payments.
