Bitcoin Posts Best August Since 2017 Amid Record ETF Inflows
Bitcoin's August was its best since 2017, and it ended in the green for the first time in five years. The cryptocurrency saw a late-month rally that pushed it back above $80,000, after a strong resurgence in institutional demand.
The U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs saw their largest monthly inflows in around 10 months, with $3.52 billion in net inflows last month, according to SoSoValue data. This makes it the first positive August in five years for Bitcoin, and its strongest monthly ETF inflows since October 2025.
However, analysts are warning of a potential 'Red September', as the cryptocurrency has historically struggled during this time due to seasonal risk-off trading and broader market weakness. Benjamin Cowen said, 'If August is also green, we might get a seasonal drop in September before a bounce in October.'
Michaël van de Poppe believes Bitcoin could still go up around $82,700 and maybe even $90,000, but added that a 20 to 40% drop in September or October is still possible. Willy Woo estimated that about 5% of the world already owns Bitcoin, slightly above his estimates for gold and the S&P 500.
