Bitcoin Predicted to Hit $1M in 5 Years: VanEck's Base Case
VanEck's Head of Digital Assets Research Matthew Sigel says Bitcoin (BTC) could reach $1 million per coin within roughly five years, a projection that puts his firm alongside other prominent voices calling for seven-figure targets. Sigel framed this as the base-case scenario on CNBC's Halftime Report, noting that demographic shifts and rising allocations from younger investors are driving adoption beyond retail speculation.
He pointed to the first central bank purchase of Bitcoin for reserves as proof that institutional buying is taking hold. Sigel also drew an analogy with the video game industry, suggesting that once a niche asset class broadens across age groups, newcomers rarely walk away. To explain the trajectory, he noted that younger investors are driving adoption, and their influence will continue to grow.
Sigel acknowledged that the road ahead will be rough, citing Bitcoin's correlation with the Nasdaq at a five-year high as evidence of macro forces steering the current rally rather than crypto-specific speculation. He added that derivatives markets show a constructive outlook, with positioning still leaning bearish and short covering driving recent gains.
