Bitcoin Price Drop Sparks Selloff in Crypto-Linked Stocks
The cryptocurrency market took a hit on Friday, August 14th, as Bitcoin's price dropped below $63,000. The decline in Bitcoin's value had a ripple effect on crypto-linked stocks, with shares of Strategy (MSTR), Bitmine Immersion Technologies (BMNR), Circle (CRCL), Coinbase (COIN) and Robinhood (HOOD) all experiencing significant losses.
MSTR shares fell nearly 5% while BMNR dropped by over 4%. COIN stock declined around 3%, with HOOD shares falling nearly 2%. The sell-off was attributed to a combination of factors, including the decline in Bitcoin's price and broader market weakness.
The SEC delayed its 'Regulation Crypto' initiative meeting, adding uncertainty to U.S. digital asset rules. Meanwhile, WTI crude prices rebounded above $82 a barrel, contributing to inflation concerns that weighed on risk assets.
