Bitcoin Price Held Back by AI Investment Boom
Bitcoin's price rally has been limited by investors redirecting capital towards artificial intelligence-related investments, according to Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX. In an interview with Bonnie Blockchain on June 26, 2026, Hayes attributed the lack of momentum in Bitcoin's price to the AI investment cycle absorbing available market liquidity.
Hayes stated that individuals benefiting from the AI sector have focused on hard assets or Nasdaq-related investments rather than increasing their crypto exposure. This has led to a distinction between current investor choices and those of previous periods when capital flowed into cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
Lorenzo Valente, an ARK Invest researcher, warned that the cryptocurrency industry is entering a deeper consolidation phase, with capital allocation becoming increasingly concentrated among fewer projects. Companies without strong product-market fit may exit the market, leading to potential shutdowns and bankruptcies.
