Bitcoin Price Hype May Be Setting Up Another Liquidity Event
The Bitcoin price has been surrounded by bullish calls from major players in the market, but this optimism may be short-lived. Robinhood suggests that more countries could follow the U.S. Strategic Reserve's lead, while Standard Chartered reiterated a $500,000 target for Bitcoin. CZ expects further growth, and Arthur Hayes sees prices reaching the hundreds of thousands quickly.
Strive reportedly bought over 1,100 BTC for $80 million, increasing its holdings above 21,000 BTC, while Strategy's latest funding move has fueled speculation that its approximately 840,000 BTC stash could eventually approach 900,000. However, address-balance data tells a different story.
The smallest cohort of holders, with balances between 0.001 and 1 BTC, hasn't shown renewed accumulation in August. Instead, their holdings have declined since late July. The 1-100 BTC group has also been distributing since mid-July, while the 100-1,000 BTC holders have started accumulating after a prolonged decline from May into early July.
The largest cohort of holders, with balances between 10,000 and 100,000 BTC, accumulated from mid-June through the recent rally but peaked around August 21 before dropping sharply by August 24. This suggests heavy distribution from the largest holders precisely as bullish calls became louder.
