Bitcoin Price Ignores Global Market Gains Amid ETF Outflows
Bitcoin's price action has been unimpressive this week, despite the S&P 500 rising by 1.16% and WTI crude oil falling 6.21%. The cryptocurrency opened Monday at $63,497.25 but quickly gave back those gains, eventually settling near $62,785 with a market capitalization of around $1.26 trillion.
The reason for Bitcoin's lackluster performance is not entirely clear, but it may be related to the de-escalation of tensions between the US and Iran. The event did send shockwaves through global markets, causing West Texas Intermediate crude oil to drop 6.21% to $79.41.
However, Bitcoin's price remained relatively flat, with some analysts suggesting that the cryptocurrency has stopped participating in the market rather than being sold out. This view is supported by various metrics, including a decrease in spot trading volume and a rise in perpetual futures open interest.
