Bitcoin Price Rally Boosts Mining Stocks Amid Regulatory Optimism
Bitcoin's recent 23% price rebound has had a significant impact on mining stocks, with some firms seeing their prices surge by as much as 67%. According to a report from BlocksBridge Consulting, these gains outpaced those of AI-related infrastructure stocks. Canaan, American Bitcoin, and Cango saw their stock prices rise by 41% to 67%, while CoreWeave increased by approximately 21%, Nebius rose by 17%, and IREN climbed by 15%. On the other hand, some mining stocks with high exposure to AI and HPC (High-Performance Computing) remained flat or declined.
BlocksBridge attributes Bitcoin's price increase to three key factors: the US Treasury's announcement on August 19 of plans to double the size of long-term bond repurchase agreements; increased optimism around cryptocurrency regulation following a meeting between White House officials and crypto executives, with President Trump urging Congress to pass the CLARITY Act; and forced liquidation of over $1.6 billion in cryptocurrency positions within 24 hours.
Furthermore, BlocksBridge's analysis found that publicly listed Bitcoin mining companies have invested approximately 15 times more than their AI-related revenue in data centers, with a total of $3.412 billion in AI and HPC income generated by nine listed mining companies between 2026 and now, against capital expenditures totaling $511 million.
