Bitcoin Price Slips as US July CPI Report Matches Expectations
The July US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report was released on time, and it showed a modest increase in prices, coming in at 3.3% to 3.4%. This matches most expectations, and analysts are taking note of the slight bump.
However, despite this relatively stable reading, Bitcoin's price took a small hit. It had briefly rebounded from its low at $63,200 to reach $64,400 just before the data was released, but it quickly dropped back down by a few hundred dollars.
The CORE CPI, which measures inflation without volatile food and energy prices, rose 2.5% - a welcome increase after June's decline due to decreasing energy costs. This rise in CORE CPI is significant because it suggests that underlying inflationary pressures are still present.
As market participants await the Federal Reserve's next move on interest rates, this CPI data provides crucial context. Analysts believe that another rate hike in September may be less likely if prices continue to rise at a moderate pace.
