Bitcoin Price Soars as Treasury Secretary Ponders Bond Market Intervention
The cryptocurrency market has seen a significant surge in recent weeks, lifting the combined market value by around $500 billion.
The Bitcoin price has come close to reaching $80,000 for the first time since late May, driven by the support of one prominent billionaire investor who has included it among his trade picks.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's recent comments have added fuel to the fire, suggesting that he may use the Treasury's near-$1 trillion General Account to help fund bond purchases and potentially send the Bitcoin price sharply higher.
However, not all experts agree with this approach, with billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller warning against trying to suppress U.S. bond yields, saying that 'governments defending prices against fundamentals always lose.'
