Bitcoin Price Stuck in Delicate Balance as Spot and Futures Markets Send Mixed Signals
Cryptocurrency analytics company Glassnode has reported that Bitcoin's price movement is trapped in a delicate balance, sending mixed signals to investors. According to Glassnode data, Bitcoin is currently trading at around $79,100, up approximately 0.7% on a weekly basis.
While the price has largely remained flat since August, spot momentum indicators have recently declined by about 30%, falling to 54.6. This indicates that selling pressure in the spot market has eased, but not enough to spark strong buying appetite.
In contrast, open positions in the futures market increased by 1% to $37.1 billion, with leverage usage continuing to grow. Funding payments fell by 32.8% to $1.3 million, but the increase in positions suggests that investors are taking on more risk.
Implied volatility remains low compared to actual volatility, and demand for call options is strong. The decline in the volatility spread to -20.9% and the decrease in the 25-delta skew indicator from 0.79% to -2.05% support this conclusion.
On-chain data showed calmer activity, with asset-adjusted transfer volume falling by 12.8% to $5.0 billion. Transaction fees decreased by 4.8% to $213,000, and the number of active addresses remained relatively flat at around 635,000.
