Bitcoin Price Surge Fuels Concern Over Sustainability
Bitcoin's price surge of 8.39% in a single session has left analysts questioning its sustainability. The cryptocurrency currently trades at $75,692, but technical indicators suggest that it may be due for a correction.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is pegged at 83.61, which is considered overbought territory. The Stochastic %K has also reached a reading of 99.29, indicating maxed out momentum oscillators. Furthermore, the MACD histogram has flatlined at zero, suggesting that the engine driving the price increase has stopped accelerating.
The Bollinger Band picture is equally telling, with BTC trading 28% beyond its upper band. Historically, prices this far outside their bands do not sustain and either consolidate sideways or snap back hard toward the midline.
Despite the legitimate $2.88 billion in Binance spot volume over 24 hours, open interest dropped 5.16%, indicating a short squeeze rather than a conviction-driven breakout. The funding rate is neutral at 0.0050%, but the combination of faded OI and neutral funding suggests that spot buyers need to take the baton from here.
Analysts predict two possible paths for Bitcoin's price path: a bullish continuation with a 35% probability, or a mean reversion with a 65% probability. The latter scenario suggests that price will make one more stab at $77,816 before rolling over and potentially breaching key support levels.
