Bitcoin Price Surge Predicted as Institutional Investors Eye Larger Allocations
River, a U.S.-based bitcoin-focused financial company, has released an adoption model that projects significant price growth for Bitcoin over the next three to five years. The analysis assumes increased allocations from individual and institutional investors will drive large inflows into the market.
The model examines historical data showing that around 4% of the world's population currently owns any bitcoin, with a fraction of those being institutional investors. Financial advisers have been increasing their exposure to cryptocurrency, with 32% holding some form of crypto assets in 2025, up from 22% previously.
River's report notes that despite this growth, actual dollar value remains limited, leaving significant upside potential if allocations increase over time. The base assumption within the model is that 20% to 40% of all global portfolios could eventually allocate 2% to 4% of assets to Bitcoin.
The estimated inflows would range from $1.3 trillion to $5.3 trillion, with a corresponding growth in Bitcoin's market capitalization from $5.5 trillion to $17.5 trillion. Applying a conservative multiplier of 3x, this would result in estimated prices for Bitcoin ranging from $250,000 to $840,000.
