Bitcoin Price Surge Sparks Debate Over Launchpad or Temporary Trap
Bitcoin's price surge has left many wondering if this is the launchpad for further growth or just a temporary trap. The cryptocurrency has risen by nearly 24% in the past week, reaching $79,463 and putting the $80,000 psychological wall within reach.
The rapid increase has been fueled by renewed investor interest, with Gracie Lin, CEO of OKX SG, stating 'We saw net inflows on every trading day last week.'
However, some experts caution that profit-taking is inevitable after such a strong move. The surge has also led to the liquidation of over $4.3 billion in short positions, forcing buyers back into the market.
The US Treasury's decision to double long-dated bond buybacks from $2 billion to $4 billion per operation starting September 9 has been cited as a contributing factor to the rally. This move is seen as 'financial repression,' where the government suppresses borrowing costs while inflation eats away at debt, which Bitcoin was designed to hedge.
With the market now in an overbought position, analysts warn that losing support at $75,000 to $76,000 could drag prices back toward $70,000. On the other hand, clearing $79,500 decisively could open the path towards $84,000 and beyond.
