Bitcoin Price Swings Intensified by Global Bond Sell-Off
Bitcoin's price volatility intensified at the start of September as global bond markets experienced a sharp sell-off. The cryptocurrency traded in a narrow range, fluctuating between $77,200 and $79,000 within a short period on Tuesday morning.
The price swings came after Bitcoin's strong performance in August, where its price jumped by almost 25%. However, the current market uncertainty is largely driven by rising energy prices and increasing global inflation concerns. The conflict in Iran has pushed Brent crude to multi-decade highs, further exacerbating borrowing costs across major economies.
The heightened volatility in cryptocurrency markets is also reflected in derivatives trading, with long liquidations reaching $23.7 million compared to $26.7 million in shorts. This contrasted with the broader market, where long positions outpaced shorts by a significant margin.
Market observers believe that government interventions and upcoming economic data will play a crucial role in determining how the Federal Reserve handles interest rates at its next meeting. A rate cut could fuel Bitcoin's upward trajectory, while standing pat might leave it vulnerable to pullbacks.
