Bitcoin Price to Jump as Developers Tackle Quantum Computing Risk
Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments, believes that Bitcoin's price will increase significantly if its developers create and publish a clear plan to harden the blockchain against quantum computing attacks.
According to Edwards, this roadmap would address the current uncertainty surrounding the risk, which has impacted investor sentiment and contributed to Bitcoin's downfall in price. The world's largest asset manager, BlackRock, recently pointed to quantum computing as a potential long-term risk for spot Bitcoin ETF investors.
Edwards estimates that Bitcoin is currently around 40% below its fair value based on energy value, with the quantum risk accounting for roughly a 30% discount. He predicts that if developers outline a clear roadmap to address the quantum threat, Bitcoin's price could increase by 'double digits'.
The uncertainty surrounding quantum computing has sparked heated debate within the Bitcoin community, with some arguing that modifying the network to make its cryptography quantum-resistant would conflict with Bitcoin's core ethos. Others claim that quantum computers are many years away and that a rushed solution could be worse than the disease.
