Bitcoin Price Volatility Spikes with $49,700 BTC Transaction
Bitcoin's price fluctuations have been causing market observers to take notice. The cryptocurrency has seen its value drop below $90,000 before rebounding to over $100,000, and is currently trading just above $98,000. One indicator of changing market behavior is the 6-12 month spent output age band, which tracks when long-held Bitcoin is moved.
XBTManager, a contributor to CryptoQuant, reports that 49,700 BTC has been spent in this category, marking a significant transaction that may indicate increased market activity. Historically, such sizable movements have preceded market volatility, suggesting that larger holders or previously dormant wallets are becoming active again.
The unexpected activity raises concerns about potential market reactions. A substantial portion of these Bitcoins might enter the market soon, possibly heightening selling pressure and inducing panic among retail investors. This could cause prices to dip temporarily before rebounding as the additional supply is absorbed by buyers.
Bitcoin's ongoing selling pressure has led to a decline in price, dropping approximately 10% from its all-time high above $109,000 recorded in January. Over the past week, Bitcoin's price has fallen by 3.5%, now trading at $98,485, a decrease of 0.5% in the last 24 hours.
