Bitcoin Proposal BIP-110 Enters Mandatory Signaling Phase Amid Slow Miner Support
The Bitcoin proposal BIP-110 has entered its mandatory signaling phase after reaching block height 961,632. This milestone marks the beginning of a potential fork in the Bitcoin network.
Despite entering this critical phase, only 2.53% of miners have signaled support for BIP-110 in the last 2,016 blocks. In contrast, the majority of miners continue to build on the existing main chain.
The implementation branch lagging behind is evident from on-chain monitoring, with only two blocks mined by Roughnecks using the OCEAN DATUM system after block height 961,633. This has resulted in a nearly hundred-block gap between the two chains.
Developers have warned about the replay risk associated with this fork, where transactions may be valid on both chains. The minority branch does not automatically split pre-fork balances, which could lead to transactions being recognized and broadcast on the main chain.
