Bitcoin Quantum Resistance Delayed by Decentralization Challenges
Bitcoin's shift to quantum resistance will be a lengthy process due to its high degree of decentralization, according to Justin Sun. Speaking at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 conference in Hong Kong, he noted that adopting quantum-resistant technology could take significant time. This is because changes to the network require support from various stakeholders, including miners, exchanges, wallet providers, and companies tied to Wrapped Bitcoin.
Sun also emphasized that traditional financial firms like JPMorgan are not immune to security risks posed by advances in quantum computing. If powerful quantum computers emerge, some cryptographic technology used in today's systems could be rendered ineffective.
Tron, on the other hand, has been researching a quantum-resistant system for the past year and plans to upgrade its network by the end of this year. Sun highlighted that Tron is developing technology to address the threat posed by quantum computing.
