Bitcoin Rally Sparks Strong Performances from Crypto-Leveraged Stocks
In late August, Bitcoin staged its most aggressive rally since 2026, surging from approximately $65,000 on July 24 to a local high of $79,500 on August 21, a gain of roughly 23.5% in one week.
This rally was fueled by three layers: macro and regulatory catalysts, ETF inflows returning, and the largest short squeeze in history.
MicroStrategy (MSTR) emerged as the strongest crypto-leveraged stock, with its Beta to the S&P 500 reaching as high as 3.55. The company holds approximately 767,000 BTC at a total cost of about $57.6 billion, and its leverage mechanism has three layers: financial leverage, valuation leverage, and sentiment leverage.
Other crypto-related stocks showed varying performances, with Circle (CRCL) experiencing the strongest rebound on the board, up 41.5% over the past month, while HOOD gained the least but possibly offered the most 'defensive' crypto exposure.
Miners, theoretically the highest-leveraged BTC derivatives, faced significant challenges in August, with MARA rising 22%, RIOT gaining 4%, and CLSK falling -1% over the past week.
