Bitcoin Ransom Wallet in Nancy Guthrie Case Still Holds Valuable Evidence
Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy, was kidnapped from her Arizona home on February 1. In the wake of the kidnapping, a ransom note demanded $6 million in bitcoin be sent to a specific digital address. Although about $152 worth of bitcoin was deposited into the account, it has yet to be transferred out.
Bezalel Eithan Raviv, CEO and founder of Lionsgate Network, explained that even though the wallet is dormant, investigators can still analyze its connections to other known wallets and potential relationships to darknet activity or scam infrastructure. This process is called attribution intelligence and it allows investigators to connect the wallet to a broader 'net worth' over time.
Raviv also noted that the passage of six months does not necessarily complicate the crypto investigation, as blockchain data remains permanent, and new sanctions, additional criminal infrastructure, and expanding intelligence databases can provide valuable insights. He emphasized that time can work both ways in this process.
