Bitcoin Recovery Hinges on Spot Demand Amid Record Long Exposure
Bitcoin's recent price stabilization near $65,200 has sparked interest in its short-term holder (STH) behavior. The 30-day STH SOPR had risen to 0.997, just below the neutral threshold of 1.0. This suggests that STHs are making a small loss on sales and may be less likely to sell now than when the price was near 0.98 in March.
Historically, short-term holders have shown similar recoveries to this one previously, hitting the break-even point in January and May. However, these recoveries soon fell back. A sustained move above 1.0 would change the structure by returning short-term spending to profit, strengthening holder conviction, and providing firmer support for Bitcoin's recovery.
But another rejection could encourage holders to exit as the price approaches its cost basis. The fact that STHs are nearing breakeven adds pressure to Bitcoin's recovery, which now faces challenges from an increasingly crowded derivatives market.
