Bitcoin Red Team Battles AI-Driven Threats in Cryptocurrency Ecosystem
A group of volunteer developers, known as the Bitcoin Red Team, is racing against time to find vulnerabilities in Bitcoin software before attackers exploit them.
The team consists of around 20-25 members, many of whom prefer to remain pseudonymous. They have been scanning the significant open-source ecosystem and working directly with projects to identify and fix vulnerabilities.
Calle, a member of the Bitcoin Red Team, explained that while the Bitcoin protocol itself is secure, the software built around it may not be. He warned that attackers are already using AI to find and exploit vulnerabilities in applications, wallets, services, and other software.
The team's efforts were prompted by the Coldcard air-gapped wallet hack and the release of more powerful Chinese AI models, which gave attackers unprecedented power. Calle stated that the arrival of Kimi K3 has caused chaos in the cybersecurity realm and that simple exploits can now be completed end-to-end by someone without advanced security expertise.
