Bitcoin Red Team Finds Thousands of Potential Vulnerabilities in Ecosystem Review
A group of volunteer security experts called Bitcoin Red Team has been conducting an AI-assisted review of projects in the Bitcoin ecosystem, and their initial findings are concerning. In just 29.8 hours, they have identified nearly 5,000 potential issues across 390 projects, with as many as 720 considered high- or critical-level problems.
The team, which includes Rob Hamilton, CEO of AnchorWatch, and Bitcoin developer Calle, has been using a combination of AI tools and human review to scan open-source repositories for vulnerabilities. According to Calle, they are averaging around 1 critical exploit per hour per person.
This comes just days after the Coldcard hardware wallet hack, which saw over $100 million in Bitcoin stolen. The team's findings have already seen a 21.4% success rate in reproducing the issues.
