Bitcoin Red Team Uncovers Over 400 Critical Security Issues Across 390 Projects
Following the recent Coldcard wallet exploit that resulted in over $100 million worth of Bitcoin being stolen, a new security group called the Bitcoin Red Team has been formed to review nearly 390 open-source Bitcoin projects. The team uses advanced AI models together with experienced security researchers to identify software bugs before hackers can exploit them.
The team's efforts have already resulted in the discovery of 85 critical vulnerabilities and 635 high-severity issues across these projects. This is a significant finding, given that some users who have not updated their wallets may still be at risk. The Red Team's goal is to strengthen Bitcoin's software before another major attack can occur.
The team uses a combination of artificial intelligence with human security experts to identify potential vulnerabilities. According to Rob Hamilton, the CEO of AnchorWatch and co-leader of the Bitcoin Red Team, 'experienced engineers often recognize subtle problems that automated tools may miss.' This emphasizes the importance of human expertise in identifying complex security issues.
