Bitcoin Red Team Unveils 5,000+ Potential Security Issues Amid Ongoing Hacks

A Bitcoin security group has identified nearly 5,000 potential issues in a sweeping review of projects within the Bitcoin ecosystem. The Bitcoin Red Team, comprised of 16 volunteers, used AI tools and human review to scan open-source repositories for vulnerabilities.

The team's leader, Calle, reported an average of one critical exploit per hour per person during their initial 29.8 hours of operation. Within this timeframe, they discovered 4,962 potential issues across 390 projects, with approximately 720 classified as high- or critical-level concerns.

According to the team, 21.4% of these findings have been successfully reproduced. The launch of the Bitcoin security review campaign comes amidst the Coldcard hardware wallet hack, which has seen over $100 million in Bitcoin stolen.
